The images that Steve paints and repurposes, using old wood, are all paintings within paintings. In this series, Steve breaks his paintings down, not only in stature, but by focusing on one element and draws sole attention to it as he creates a new story. These Small Measure pieces have isolated a key aspect of a previous composition and present it as the primary subject. As with all his work, the connection between the frame and the interior is unified through the use of tone, value and texture.
