Overview of Series
The images that Steve paints and repurposes, using old wood, are all paintings within paintings. In this series, Steve breaks his paintings down, not only in stature, but by focusing on one element and draws sole attention to it as he creates a new story. These Small Measure pieces have isolated a key aspect of a previous composition and present it as the primary subject. As with all his work, the connection between the frame and the interior is unified through the use of tone, value and texture. Solitude SOLD
Framed 9 x 6 1/2 x 1 1/8 inches deep. It comes with a removable wooden stand so it could also be hung. Painting with subjects reading letters is one of Steve's favorites, and this one is no different. A lone woman, whose main focus is on a letter she has received, is surrounded by a thick and vibrant forest that seems to envelop her like a warm hug.
